The works to design the new penitentiary of Chisinau will start on November 14. The plot on which this will be erected is situated in Bubuieci commune of Chisinau municipality, while a Dutch design company, in concert with another two companies, will work out the building project, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry of Justice says the signed contract stipulates that the design of the new penitentiary will be ready in 12 months.
The Dutch company was chosen at an international tender contest held to choose a contractor to design the penitentiary on September 8, following interviews with three foreign companies selected out of the six that submitted bids.
The construction of the future penitentiary will contribute to the achievement of the Government’s objective to reform the organization and management of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions with the aim of setting new safety, security and discipline standards without affecting detainees’ dignity, in accordance with the regulations of the Council of Europe.
