Nichifor Corochii replaces Nicolae Timofti as CSM president

Judge Nichifor Corochii was elected president of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). The position fell vacant after Nicolae Timofti became President of Moldova. Nichifor Corochii was elected by the CSM Board at its Tuesday meeting after being nominated by Mihai Poalelungi, the president of the Supreme Court of Justice. Judge Poalelungi stated that Nichifor Corochii was a remarkable professional who was worthy of the post. All the 10 CSM Board members attending the meeting voted for Nichifor Corochii, who was the sole candidate. Nichifor Corochii has served as acting CSM president since Nicolae Timofti's departure in March 2012.
