A number of 445 occupational accidents were recorded in 2013. Of them, 38 resulted in death, by 8 more than a year before. In a meeting on April 25, deputy chairman of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova Petru Chiriac said the excessive liberalization of the labor legislation led to the worsening of the situation as regards the safety of employees, IPN reports.
On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Potang said the Government controls this area and approved a number of decisions on safety at work. “The legal basis in this area is rich. We recently adopted regulations on security norms concerning the purchase and use of new equipment, the cleanup of workplaces, etc,” she stated.
Tatiana Potang also said that Moldova only now learns to ensure a social dialogue between the administration, the employers and trade unions. “Only by communication, will we manage to overcome the obstacles and to solve the problems,” she added.
A service was held in the meeting to commemorate the victims of accidents at work. Fifteen families of persons who died at the workplace, being trade union members, received by 3,000 lei in assistance.
The meeting was held before April 28, when the world trade unions commemorate the victims of occupational accidents and work-related diseases.
