The Ministry of Environment said the nurseries managed by the State Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” start to fell spruces after December 15, in accordance with the demand, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry, the nurseries have an offer of 46,000 spruce trees and 2,000 pine trees, which is more than last year. The prices of Christmas trees sold directly from nurseries remained the same as last year. The height of the trees varies between one meter and six meters. Most of them (over 23,000) are about 1.5 meters in height.

The specialists come up with pieces of advice for maintaining the Christmas trees fresh longer. The thermal shock caused by bringing the firs in the house kills them in 70% of the cases. That’s why the room must be aired frequently. The daily splashing with water also extends the trees’ life.

The Agency “Moldsilva” warns that the illegal felling of fir trees is punished with a fine of 2,000 to 2,500 lei.
