Officials in the Donduseni District Council and in the Donduseni town hall are investigated and charged with abuse of authority which damaged the state with 150,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, as a result of operative investigation, the law enforcement agents inspected the work of the Council and of the town hall. They discovered some irregularities from 2009. By abusing their positions, the officials in these institutions illegally included the village of Donduseni in the list of localities stricken by hail and heavy rainfalls, which wasn’t true.
As a result, they obtained 15 tonnes of diesel fuel from the state reserve.
They are currently charged with malfeasance in office or abuse of authority, both punishable by a fine of 150 to 400 conventional units and jail up to 3 years. In both cases, the accused are banned from certain positions or activities for up to 5 years.
Recently, the Basarabeasca district head, his deputy and two other local officials have been arrested by the Anticorruption Center and charged with passive corruption. They are accused of having requested and received 20,000 lei from an entrepreneur for signing the final reception papers for a building. The case against them has been sent to court.
