One million books for three thousand libraries in the country

One million books are to be donated to three thousand school and public libraries in Moldova. The books are a Romanian donation that was promised by President Traian Basescu to his Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Timofti during a meeting in Bucharest, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I know that the people in Moldova have always been keen readers. I think that this gift, these world literature books will give our students the possibility to become acquainted with foreign culture, in addition to our own”, said Nicolae Timofti during his visit to the state-run company “Mold-Didactica”, where the donation was delivered. Prime Minister Vlad Filat has stated during the event that it is important that this donation comes from the heart. “This gift is a continuation of the support that Romania has been offering to Moldova”, noted the premier. Mold-Didactica director Efim Jimbei said that the donation comprises 188 book titles, which will be distributed to the 1,500 school libraries and 1,500 public libraries, according to the number of students and inhabitants respectively. The donation is estimated at 250,000 euros.
