Online chess for children younger than six

The team of Chisinau on April 26 played the first online chess match involving children under six in the world, against the team of Yehud-Monosson, Israel. The teams included by eight boys and two girls, IPN reports.

The match was played on the specialized platform chessclub.com. Chisinau was represented by the team of the National Chess Academy whose director general is Ion Girnet, while president grandmaster Viorel Iordachescu. The team of Yehud-Monosson consisted of members of the Chess Academy of grandmaster Boris Alterman.

The opening of the competition was attended by the mayors of both of the cities. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said it is very useful to improve the ability to think so as to calculate 2-3 moves ahead, as it happens when playing chess. Chess can help doing much more for the country in the future.

Mayor of Yehud-Monosson Iaela Malkis noted that chess teaches children to think non-standardly and in a creative way, contributing to the improvement of results and development of patience, leadership and managerial skills. It is important that this process should start in the primary school.

Both of the mayors, who are fond of chess, expressed their support for the initiative to stage chess games online and signed an agreement of cooperation in a move to promote chess among the young generations of the two countries and to exchange experience.

According to the organizers, despite the early age, the children showed a high training level. In the end, all the children were awarded medals and presents provided by both of the mayors.
