Operator and four customs officers arrested

The operator of the company VamservInform and four employees of the Leuseni-Albita customs post were arrested for 72 hours on suspicion of involvement in a cigarette smuggling case. On December 14, a truck with 400,000 packets of cigarettes was stopped at the Albita customs post, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Customs Service, the Service’s prosecution officers and the prosecutors are taking steps to determine all the circumstances of the case and to collect evidence showing that the employees were involved in the offense. The criminal case will be afterward sent to court. A truck registered in Moldova that was to enter Romania was stopped at the Albita customs post in Romania’s Vaslui county on December 14. The driver who had Moldovan and Romanian nationalities said he was transpiring jars to Macedonia. But during a check the border inspectors found a large number of cigarette packs with Moldovan excise stamps.
