A number of orchards and two houses in the villages Cojusna and Scoreni and in Straseni town have been inundated after the Byk River flooded. Intervention teams of the Emergencies Service erected a levee that was reinforced with sacks of sand in order to redirect the flow of water back into the river, IPN’s reporter informs.
The dwellers are pumping water from cellars and homes by themselves. There were flooded the farmlands of ten economic entities. The head of Straseni district Petru Voloshchuk said the families that sustained considerable losses will be supported with money from the district and local reserve funds. The local authorities will ask the Government and the Ministry of the Environment to financially support the flood cleanup. Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean travelled to the scene.
The damage caused by floods hasn’t been assessed yet. When the water retreats and the access road is unblocked, the Straseni district council will create a working commission to determine the losses sustained by the villages. Locals said the Byk didn’t cause so serious floods earlier and complained that the crops were destroyed. The people hope they will receive support from the authorities.
The access road to six villages of Straseni district is still closed.
