Orthodox Christians celebrate today, July 28, Saint Prince Vladimir and Saint Martyrs Chiric and Iulita. Churchgoers come to pray for their health and for the health of their close ones and of the whole people, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Priest Teodor Borta, parson of the Nativity Cathedral, says that Vladimir was brought up in pagan faith, but his grandmother Olga was a Christian and influenced his spiritual education and his choice of faith. Prince Vladimir gave up paganism and , after speaking with representatives of different faiths, chose Orthodox Christianity and turned the Russian people to this faith.
Today, Christians also celebrate Saints Chiric and Iulita, martyrs who suffered in the early days of Christianity. The folk think that this day is full of dangers. They also name the holiday “Chirica the Lame”.
“People fear various things that can happen, but don’t fear God, and allow themselves many things against the faith. When threatened with fire, maiming and other dangers, then people obey and celebrate the holiday. People have more faith in superstitions and predictions than in God. These are traces of paganism, which we should get rid of. Christians must believe in God, listen to the Church, care about the faith they were born in. If they change faith, they won’t be redeemed”, says the priest.
Churchgoers say they came to the holy service to pray for forgiveness of sins, for the health of the people, of the whole world and of their close ones. Christians say they care about these holidays and that people must trust in God and repent for the sins of mankind. Some even declared they prayed for the country’s leaders, for God to illuminate the dignitaries because there were many things done against the Christian faith.
