More than 200 kilometers of water and sewer pipes in the municipality of Chisinau will be rehabilitated within a priority investment program that will be implemented by the public utility SA Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) with the support and with the financial resources of the EBRD, EIB and the EU. For the first time in the last 50 years, the municipal water supplier will extensively renovate the water and sewer pipelines, including by fully replacing the drinking water pipes of apartment buildings, IPN reports.
According to ACC, this year they intend to rehabilitate the water pipes inside apartment buildings and the water treatment stations by substituting the pumps and electrical cables. They will also gradually modernize the artesian wells in Chisinau by considerably increasing the exploitation period and by creating reserves for emergencies. Automated systems for permanently monitoring the quality of water will be implemented at the Chisinau Water Treatment Station and at other pumping stations.
Among the works performed by ACC in 2014 are the investment and extensive repair works on the water and sewerage system of the municipality, especially on the streets that are to be repaired by the local authorities. Last year, there were fully replaced 9.2 km of water and sewer pipes on Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd, Vasile Alecsandri St and Constantin Negruzzi St.
The pilot project to use the mud collected at the water treatment stations in agriculture, for doing scientific research, was completed in 2014. Owing to this project, ACC was allowed to broadly use the given mud in agriculture over the next few years. Also, there were modernized two regional water treatment stations. The number of the company’s clients was raised by 1,500, while the payments for the provided services was maintained at the level of over 100%.
