More than 50 persons last year benefited from financial support from the state for receiving expensive treatment or having costly medical examinations that are unavailable in the country abroad. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection allocated 4 million lei for the purpose.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency, the Ministry said the impossibility of receiving treatment at medical institutions in Moldova is the only criteria used when deciding to provide state support. The financial assistance cannot exceed 25% of the cost of the treatment, except for special case, in particular when these involve children.
Most often, the Moldovans went abroad to treat cancers at advanced stages, to receive treatment with stem cells or radiosurgery treatment in case of tumors, to have heart-lung transplantation and to be treated for severe congenital anomalies.
The decision to provide financial assistance for medical treatment outside Moldova is taken by the commission for the selection of patients for costly treatment or examinations based on the conclusions of specialty commissions of the Ministry of Health.
