Over 6,000 active cases and 510 deaths caused by COVID-19

More than 15,000 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Moldova by the evening of June 25. Over 6,000 of these are active cases and 56% of those infected have been cured. So far, COVID-19 caused the death of 510 Moldovans. The average age of the victims was 66 and 99% of them had by at least one disease. A number of 449 infected persons are now in the hospital in a serious state, National Public Health Agency director Nicolae Furtună was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.

The official stated that the number of cases of COVID-19 rises weekly by 17%, while of deaths by 3%. The number of those who recovered declined by 23%.

More than 74,000 persons have been tested for COVID-19 and over 91,000 tests have been done by now. The average incubation period remains 5-6 days. The average age of those infected is 47. Almost 900 children contracted the virus so far.

The contagion rate is 1.04% and is lower than last week. Nicolae Furtună noted that the number of imported cases increased slightly following the relaxation of travel restrictions. The infected women prevail over the infected men. More infections were recorded in urban areas.

Svetlana Lupu, head of the Medical Services Quality Management Department, said the situation at the national hospitals is under control. In the municipality of Chisinau, there are now sufficient available beds to ensure high-quality management of all the cases of hospitalization and treatment. The district hospitals were allowed to allot more beds for possible infections with COVID-19.
