The lawyers for former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc, who was recently sentenced to four years in jail, can file an appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice until February 19. Contacted by IPN, the head of the press service of the Chisinau Police Division Adrian Jovmir said that to arrest Gheorghe Papuc, the police needs the copy of the conviction decision, which hasn’t yet reached their chancellery.
According to prosecutor Artur Lupascu, Gheorghe Papuc wasn’t arrested immediately after the Chisinau Appeals Court passed judgment because there were no representatives of the bodies that were to make the arrest present at the hearing.
Gheorghe Papuc was found guilty of professional negligence that resulted in the death of Valeriu Boboc. Together with Papuc, former general police commissioner Vladimir Botnari was also convicted, but he was put on probation for a two-year period.
The trial against Botnari and Papuc started in June 2010. At the end of 2011, the Centru district court acquitted the two generals.
