The legislative body has ratified the Border Treaty with Romania. The Liberals led by Mihai Ghimpu and the Communist MPs didn’t endorse the document. The latter announced that they will challenge the voting procedure in the Constitutional Court, IPN reports.

The Communists left the assembly hall on June 27, when the bill concerning the ratification of the treaty was to be passed in the first reading. They said that after they left, the quorum was not present and thus the voting was illegal.

The Communist lawmakers asked for a period of ten days to formulate amendments to the treaty.

Mihai Ghimpu’s Liberals also challenged the voting of the bill. Valeriu Munteanu asked recounting the votes as three Liberals didn’t vote, but their votes were counted.

Under the ratified treaty, the two signatory parties will create a joint commission for verifying the state border and maintaining the state signs. The commission will measure and verify the border once in five years. From the year coming after the entering into force of the treaty, the state border will be checked in concert. At the end, there will be formulated new demarcation documents.

The legislature also ratified the Agreement on Cooperation in the Military Area between Moldova and Romania. The Communists voted against, saying the accord enables the neighboring country to bring an army into Moldova for an indefinite period.
