Parliament will be obliged to call the referendum on the amendment of the Constitution, which was initiated by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, if it does not manage to solve the problem by parliamentary ways, said experts invited to the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
MP Anatolie Zagorodnyi, who is a member of the Social-Democratic Platform created in Parliament, said that most probably this referendum will not take place. “The main goal of the referendum initiated by the Platform “Dignity and Truth” was to obtain the direct election of the head of state. Following the March 4 decision by the Constitutional Court, this problem disappeared. Two aspects remain – annulment of the parliamentary immunity and reduction in the number of MPs. But these issues can be dealt with by parliamentary ways. We are for removing the parliamentary immunity. Also, as a result of the implementation of the territorial-administrative reform, decreasing the number of MPs will become possible,” he stated.
Socialist MP Vasile Bolea considers the initiative of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” could be resolved in Parliament. “This is a people’s initiative and if the Central Election Commission determines that all the signatures are acceptable, Parliament will have to call a referendum or to amend the Constitution itself,” he said.
