The Action and Solidarity Party has officially endorsed Maia Sandu’s re-election bid by founding a so-called initiative group, to be headed by lawyer Eduard Digore. Prime Minister Dorin Recean and PAS president Igor Grosu were among those who attended the launch event.

“I strongly believe that Moldovans know how to discern and decide their future. They demonstrated it categorically at the 2020 presidential election and the 2021 parliamentary election. Electing Maia Sandu as president was a real revolution in our society, with great echoes abroad. Credit for this conscious and rational choice goes to the citizens of this country, at home and abroad”, declared Eduard Digore.

“Your support and trust gave me the honor and responsibility in 2020 to make Moldova a better home that is respected in the world and is safe from dangers. To those who believed and believe in this path, I say that we will succeed in moving Moldova forward. We will succeed in making our country part of the most developed and peaceful union in the world - the European Union - where there are no borders, where every person matters and where peace between countries is guaranteed. To those who have doubts, I say that this is what democracy looks like, and that’s a good thing. And it is important that we have a country where the decision belongs to the people. In 2024 we face the most important decision since Independence, we will choose our future. The referendum will pave our way tomorrow and I trust that our nation wants peace. We are a peaceful people, who know how to get along with everyone, who value freedom and human dignity”, said Maia Sandu in her speech.

Filmmaker Mihai Poiată, a member of the First Parliament, recalled that he was among the signatories of Moldova’s Declaration of Independence. “Many of my fellow MPs are no longer alive. I am luckier, but I had to wait exactly three decades for a politician to emerge and take over our baton, and assume the objectives set by the First Parliament. She finally appeared, she is that politician, her name is Maia Sandu”, noted Mihai Poiată.

Vera Balan, a teacher of history and principal of Petre Ștefănucă Lyceum in Ialoveni, said she was proud to express her support for Maia Sandu. “We are at a crucial moment for the history of our country, for our future. The choice is ours and we are sure that the straightest path is European integration. We have the opportunity to go to the elections, to express our vote, to participate in the referendum, because we are aware that we are responsible citizens, we take care of the future of our country, we take care of the future of our children”, said Vera Balan.
