Prime Minister Pavel Filip has signed an order whereby he approved the concept of the reform of the disability determination system of Moldova, IPN reports. According to the Government’s press service, the concept envisions the restructuring of the National Council for Disability and Work Capacity Determination and implementation of a transparent mechanism for examining cases by distributing these randomly.
There will be worked out and approved new instruments and criteria for determining disability, which will enable to assess the person’s state of health according to international standards in the field. The reform will ensure the electronic monitoring of persons who will be granted a disability degree.
The concept will be implemented during 2017 – 2020 with the support of UN agencies, representatives of nongovernmental organizations and the academic community.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the persons with different disabilities in Moldova in 2016 totaled almost 185,000. Nearly 13,000 of these were children younger than 17. The people with disabilities represented 5.2% of Moldova’s population.
