The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) considers the Transnistrian conflict can be settled only by dialog, in the 5+2 format, not by solutions identified outside this format. The party specified this after the Party of Socialists issued a press release where it speaks about the resolving of the Transnistrian dispute by the country’s federalization, IPN reports.
“As to the subject of the country’s federalization, the idea promoted by the Socialists and President Igor Dodon, the PDM considers this is not a solution that can contribute to the country’s reunification. It rather opens up a broad way to its division. It is an approach that can cause tension and lead the negotiation process to an incorrect and dangerous direction,” says the party’s press release.
Also, the PDM says it will plead for continuing the dialogue in the 5+2 format where to identify solutions in a transparent way. According to the Democrats, neither the people, nor the dialogue partners in the Transnistrian issue or the country’s Constitution offer preconditions for seriously discussing the possibility of dividing the Republic of Moldova into several federal entities.
