The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola called on the Moldovan politicians to form a majority coalition and a Government as swiftly as possible. He made such a call in the seminar “Eastern Partnership Initiative after the Riga Summit: expectations and perspectives”, IPN reports.
“We want a stable majority coalition to be created as quickly as possible, regardless of the political cooler, and a Government to be formed so that macroeconomic stability is ensured, the Agreement with the IMF is signed and reforms are done,” stated the ambassador.
Speaking about the provision of financial support by the EU for covering the budget deficit of Moldova, Tapiola said Brussels will refrain for now. “The Government of Moldova should first implement the policy matrix proposed by us and ensure macroeconomic stability. This money that the EU is ready to offer to you must not be paid back. But the EU must make sure that the money will be used according to the purpose so that the set goal is achieved,” said the ambassador.
Pirkka Tapiola considers that Moldova is now at a crossroads. “I think the most difficult stage was reached, when the time of statements passed and the time of concrete reforms came. We must not waste the valuable time on artificial discussions. For me, a pro-European government is the one that takes concrete steps. In Moldova, the reforms didn’t advance. The EU is ready to help you implement reforms, but wants to see real wish in this regard,” he stated.
The seminar was staged by the Foreign Policy Association in cooperation with the Embassy of Latvia to Moldova.
