The National Liberal Party (PNL) calls upon the member parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) to be united as the early legislative elections must be avoided, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the PLN leader Vitalia Pavlichenko.
“The PNL is against early parliamentary elections as they would be a disaster for Moldova. All the means must be used to negotiate en bloc, including with the Communist opposition, which might be blamed for the possible early elections. The opposition speaks about statehood, but in reality hinders the formation of the state institutions. The non-election of the President conserves debauchery in all the spheres, where those who take decisions act according to the steal as much as possible principle,” Vitalia Pavlichenko told a news conference on September 21.
The PNL calls on the parties of AIE-2 to find political will and prepare a new Constitution that would lay down the form of government and a clear method of electing the head of state so as to avoid holding early elections every year.
“Given the more evidently unstable economic and political situation, the PNL considers that the drafting of a new Constitution is an opportunity for broad public discussions on the future of the Moldovan state and the optimal way of entering the European Union, the union with Romania being, according to the PNL, the most real and safest solution,” said Vitalia Pavlichenko.
The PNL will monitor the behavior of the power and the opposition in order to contribute to the restoration of civilized stability in a state of law and to meet the expectations of the Moldovans who voted for democracy. “Basing on the legislative experience, the National-Liberals believe there is now no other party that could correctly control the power. The PNL is one of the few parties that can exercise competent control over governance,” stated Vitalia Pavlichenko.
The National Liberal Party launched the call following the situation created after the Constitutional Court interpreted Article 78 of the Constitution and ruled that the legislative body must be dissolved every time it fails to elect the head of state. It also decided that the legislature cannot institute another majority for electing the head of state by organic law when the Parliament is dissolved repeatedly following the non-election of the President. Thus, the head of state is elected by 3/5 of the votes of MP, i.e. 61 votes, in any situation.
