The pieces stolen from the chessboard placed in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral in central Chisinau were discovered near an apartment building in Rascani district, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Generals Police Commissariat, the police are examining the pictures from the surveillance cameras set up on the Triumphal Arch in order to identify the thieves. They face a fine of 6,000 to 20,000 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or up to four years in jail.
Two horses, a king and a queen were stolen on the night of July 28.
