Two inspectors of the Traffic Police Division of the Vulcanesti Police Commissariat were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of passive corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Anticorruption Center, the inspectors asked for 600 lei from a driver who did not have a driver's license for not drawing up a report against him and for giving him back the license plate.
The driver filed a complaint to the local General Police Division. One of the inspectors was arrested in front of the Vulcanesti Police Commissariat when he was returning the license plate. His colleague was arrested inside the Commissariat shortly afterward.
The two police officers will remain under arrest for 72 hours.
The Anticorruption Center said that 11 policemen suspected of corruption acts have been arrested so far this yer. Fifty-five legal cases were opened against employees of the Ministry of the Interior last year.
