The National Police is to be regionalized. Three regional directorates - North, Center and South - will be created, as well as two territorial ones - of the Chisinau municipality and of the ATU Gagauzia. The provisions are contained in a draft approved by the government on Thursday, IPN reports.
In the context of regionalization, several police officers who have administrative duties and are involved in bureaucratic tasks will be transferred to the field. According to the authorities, this measure will allow better personnel management and will increase the speed of intervention in emergencies.
At the same time, the principle of the closest patrol will be implemented, so that interventions will be faster, regardless of the area of the request.
"This structural reorganization is very welcome. I remind you that our goal is to be where the citizens call us within 15 minutes at the most, whether it is the services provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the emergency service of the Ministry of Health," Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
The draft also envisages the delimitation of the competence of the Police and the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri. The main responsibility of the police will be to maintain public order and safety, while the Carabinieri will intervene only in special situations, when additional support is needed.
