A police officer from Straseni was sentenced to five years and a half in jail for passive corruption. He asked for money from a man for giving back his driver’s license that was taken from him even if he didn’t violate the traffic rules, IPN reports.

According to prosecutors, last May the offender, who worked as district officer at the Straseni Police Inspectorate, stopped a car near Ghelauza village. He requested the driver to take the breath test and the result was negative. However, the policeman deprived the driver of his license and of the technical passport, telling him he will give him the documents back in exchange for 2,000 lei. In several days, the officer was caught in the act of taking a part of the money.

The police officer was also fined 120,000 lei and was banned from working in the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior for a period of seven years. The judgment passed by the Straseni Court is not yet definitive.
