The Political Movement “Ravnopravie” (“Equal Rights”) became the Shor Party. The decision to rename the party was taken in a meeting of the party’s political council. The announcement was made by Alina Sargu, spokeswoman for the party’s leader Ilan Shor, the mayor of Orhei, IPN reports.

Alina Sargu read a statement signed by Ilan Shor, who is under house arrest, noting that this was transmitted through the agency of his lawyers.

Ilan Shor says he is aware of the risks posed by the new name, but is confident that these are temporary and will disappear when it is proven that he is innocent.

In his statement, the politician says given that the parties in Moldova are associated with their leaders, they decided that the party he heads will bear his name and this fact will not hinder the party from being really of the left and from having a program that will contain radical measures designed to change the social relations in the country.

“I declare with overall responsibility that, together with my team, we will focus on the own political agenda, as we did during the campaign prior to the local mayoral elections in Orhei,” reads the statement.

Ilan Shor was elected chairman of the Movement “Ravnopravie” in June 2016.
