The poverty and the steady rise of prices are the problems worrying the Moldovans most, shows an opinion poll issued this week in Chisinau. 75% of the respondents say they have no decent living, Info-Prim Neo reports.
For 30% of the population, the available incomes are not enough “at least for the strictly necessary”, and 45% manage to cover only stringent expenses.
About 61% of the interviewed say the poverty problem is worrying. Approximately 68% of the respondents are concerned with the continuous rise of prices. The elderly are the most worried, 77% of them being concerned with the phenomenon. The fear they will not be able to cope with the rising prices is shared by 73% of the respondents from rural areas.
A significant part, about 48%, are worried about their children’s future, as 36% are worried about unemployment.
Corruption preponderantly concerns the urban residents, young people aged from 18 to 29, people with higher education or richer.
As for the living standard, 49% of the population are unhappy with the way they live in, as this index is growing for the last two years. Each fourth citizen assesses the life quality to be worse than a year ago.
Although complaining of difficult living conditions, 55% of respondents say they wouldn’t swap their dwelling place for another country, if they had such an opportunity.
The poll called “The Public Opinion Barometer” is implemented by the Public Policy Institute, supported by the Soros Foundation. The opinion poll of March-April this year was carried out on 1,435 persons, excluding Transnistria, with a maximal error of ±2.6%.
