Prime Minister Vlad Filat met with several European officials in Brussels, on Thursday, December 16. He discussed about the post-electoral situation, about the summer floods and the economic state of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. During his meeting with the president of the European Council Herman van Rompuy, Vlad Filat said the Moldovan government continued to implement reforms and make steps towards the EU. “We are fully engaged in carrying out all the actions we planned and will go on focusing our efforts on this goal”. Herman van Rompuy spoke about the recent elections in Moldova, mentioning the process met all the democratic standards. The president of the European Council added he had a visit in Moldova scheduled at the beginning of 2011. PM Filat also met with European commissary for international cooperation, humanitarian help and crisis management Kristalina Georgieva. They discussed about the summer floods and methods of preventing and managing such situations. The Moldovan official spoke about the need to fortify dams and to purchase modern equipment required to deal with inundations. Kristalina Georgieva said Moldova did well, despite all the difficulties. She said the European Commission would accept Moldova’s projects regarding the improvement of its crisis management capacity. EC will fund the projects approved on November 18, 2010 in Odessa by the Common Monitoring Committee of the Romania-Ukraine-Moldova Cross-border Cooperation Programme. They are meant to prevent inundations in the River Prut valley and to improve mobile intervention services. The Moldovan PM participated in public debates organized by the Center for European political studies, in collaboration with EU-Moldova forum and the organization “European partnership for democracy”. Filat said that this year, Moldova managed to overcome the effects of the crisis. Moreover, after 9 months, the GDP increased by 6.5%. By the end of the year, the growth should reach 7%, according to Vlad Filat. His visit in Brussels is scheduled for 2 days. On Friday, he will participate at the summit of the European Popular Party.
