The Parliament’s commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media ordered to create a working group to add the profession of logopedist to the nomenclature of specialties. Such a decision was taken as a result of public hearings on the status of the profession of logopedist in the education system, IPN reports.
The logopedists attempting the hearings said language disorders are often met and, if they are not removed at an early age, they can reappear in school. These disorders can lead to other impairments, related to writing and learning. Changes in the personality of the child appear thus. The intervention of logopedists is welcome at preschool age and in primary classes. Currently, only 33 logopedists work in kindergartens and the figure is much lower than the necessary one.
MP Lilian Carp said the Chisinau City Hall is the only local administration that allocates money for paying salaries to logopedists from the local budget. Contracts with logopedists could be signed through specialized centers that will provide psychological, kineto-therapeutic and other kinds of services.
Participants in the hearings said the situation in rural areas is more difficult than in urban ones. Many parents are abroad and the children are left in the care of relatives and nobody tells about the speech impairments of children.
The commission’s chairman Vladimir Hotineanu said given that the profession of logopedist is not included in the nomenclature of professions managed by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family and in the nomenclature of specialties managed by the Ministry of Education, the logopedists risk remaining without pension or will have a pension for the post of psychologist only.
The Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga” in Chisinau is the only education institution that trains logopedists.
