A prosecutor and an accomplice have been arrested after a member of the public called the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (APO) to complain that he had been asked to give 700 euros through an intermediary in exchange for the prosecutor's favorable decision in an administrative case.
The Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release that criminal proceedings have been initiated on charges of influence peddling. The intermediary was caught in the act of receiving the first installment of 400 euros of the requested amount. Following interrogation, the intermediary confessed that the money was supposed to reach a prosecutor in Ocnita.
The prosecutor and his accomplice have been arrested for 72 hours and are now held in custody at the APO's detention facility
