Prosecutors seek life imprisonment for man who murdered his girlfriend

The Rascani Prosecutor’s Office demands life imprisonment for a young man who killed his girlfriend in a park near Zimbrului St in Chisinau in December 2010. Recently, the court sentenced the murderer to 20 years in jail and ordered that he pay damages of almost 141,000 lei to the family of the girl, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the two got acquainted through a social networking site. The girl studied at the State University of Moldova. They had a number of meetings. During a walk on December 15, the two started to quarrel. The young man beat the girl and then strangled her. The body was discovered several hours later by a person passing by. The prosecutors intend to appeal the sentence to a higher court and to insist on life imprisonment.
