The supporters of mayor-elect Andrei Nastase came together in front of the Chisinau City Hall for a new protest in the morning of June 26. The InfoTrafic service said the section of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd between the streets Ciuflea and M. Viteazul is inaccessible to traffic, IPN reports.
Access to the section of Pushkin St between the streets Bucuresti and 31 august 1989 is restricted. Only public transport can travel there.
The protesters gathered in front of the Chisinau City Hall at about 7:30am. Police officers were deployed at the scene.
In the evening of June 25, the Supreme Court of Justice upheld the Appeals Court’s decision to not invalidate the results of the early mayoral elections held recently in Chisinau municipality.
After the Chisinau City Court on June 19 decided to not validate the election of Andrei Nastase as mayor, the Appeals Court upheld this decision in two days. Under the argued judgment of the ordinary court, both Andrei Nastase and Ion Ceban campaigned on the election day, which is inadmissible according to the Election Code. Both of the candidates, through the agency of live streams on social networking sites, called on the electorate to vote. Even if these didn’t say who namely the people should vote for, the court decided that these actions had a significant impact on the voters’ option.
