The Chisinau City Hall will hold a public auction to purchase 850 GPS systems for monitoring the public transport. The systems will be installed in trolleybuses, buses and the vehicles of the road maintenance company “Autosalubritate”. Acting head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Igor Gamretski has told IPN that the monitoring systems will enable to localize the public transport and to reduce the unjustified costs.
Initially, there will be bought 850 systems. Afterward, their number will be extended. “The vehicles of “Autosalubritate” have been already equipped with GPS systems, but it’s not right for the company to install them and to monitor the data itself. Such a procedure is not logical. The monitoring should be performed by the General Public Transport Division, while the information will be stored in a common database. Everyone will have access to the stored data, but will not be able to modify them,” stated Igor Gamretski.
According to him, they are considering the possibility of installing in public transport stations electronic boards with real-time information about where the buses and trolleybuses are and when they arrive in the stations.
