The Diaconia Social Mission in the Republic of Moldova supports women’s rights and condemns domestic violence, a topic that was thoroughly addressed at the conference "Family Under the Protection of Faith: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue on Domestic Violence. The event highlighted the significant role that religious communities play in preventing and addressing domestic violence, IPN reports.

Over 90 leaders from the Orthodox Church, women’s rights experts, and representatives from philanthropic organizations in Romania and Moldova participated in the conference to discuss the role of the religious community in preventing and combating domestic violence.

"The Church’s responsibility to support the family, helping it become a healthy and harmonious environment, extends to the social factors that play a crucial role in ensuring the necessary well-being for balanced development. We need the courage to address the issues directly, and through this courage, we can initiate valuable projects to prevent violence", stated His Grace Veniamin, Bishop of Southern Bessarabia.

"You are the ones who provide moral values, and as church leaders, you hold a position of trust within the community, placing you in a unique role to drive change", said Janis Mazeiks, the EU Ambassador, addressing the Orthodox church leaders at the conference.

The Ambassador also emphasized that "core Christian values, such as compassion, respect, love, and faithfulness, form a vital foundation for preventing gender-based and domestic violence".

The event is part of the project "Love for ne’s Nenighbor: The ole of Rerligious ommunities in preventing domestic violence in rural communities,” implemented by the Diaconia Social Mission under the “EU4GenderEquality” program, funded by the European Union in Moldova and carried out by UN Women Moldova and UNFPA Moldova.
