Owners of individual houses and associations of condominium owners could get grants and allowances to make energy consumption more efficient. The Cabinet approved the financing program Moldova Residential Energy Efficiency Fund, IPN reports.

The program aims to renovate a heated area of at least 507,000 square meters in buildings of the residential sector. This is about 8,500 apartments or about 5,000 individual houses. Also, energy savings of at least 66.9 million kWh are to be made for household consumers by 2027. This is the equivalent of over 100 million lei.

According to the Cabinet, improving the energy performance of residential buildings is the most sustainable method for reducing the impact of high energy prices and charges on the population. This year, over 300 million lei was allocated for implementing energy efficiency measures in the residential sector.

The objectives of this program were set for the period between 2024 and 2027. About 1.4 billion lei is needed for the purpose. The money will be provided through the National Center for Sustainable Energy.
