Residents and guests of Chisinau celebrated City’s Day

On October 14, the inhabitants and guests of Chisinau celebrated the City’s Day in the center of the city. The main artery of Chisinau became a meeting place for craftsmen and vendors of barbecue meat, pies and wine. The holiday was opened by Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. He made a symbolic gesture and opened a barrel with wine, IPN reports.

Chisinau celebrated 577 years of the first attestation. In the morning, the mayor and representatives of the local authorities laid flowers at the monument to ruler Stephan the Great. The Holy Liturgy was then held at the “God’s Birth” Cathedral.

The artistic events were started by the well-known folk dances group “Joc”.  Afterward, the Guard of Honor of the Union Museum located in the Romanian town Alba Iulia re-enacted a historical battle between Dacians and Romans. A concert was later given by national singers and bands, including Mihai Ciobanu, Zinaida Julea, and Chatarsis. The guest of honor was the Romanian singer Andra. The holiday closed with a display of fireworks, as usual.

The police didn’t report s extraordinary cases. Only the drivers encountered problems during the day owing to traffic jams and illegally parked cars.

The same day, President Nicolae Timofti went to Floresti to celebrate the day of his native town. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca visited the village Saiti of Causeni district, where the local kindergarten was destroyed in a fire. He promised that the Government will look for money to renovate it. Head of Parliament Igor Corman took part in the festivities held to celebrate the Day of Briceni town.
