The absence of a law that would clearly stipulate the activity and status of psychologists is the main drawback in the work of psychologists in Moldova. Therefore, the psychologists do not have a well-defined professional status and do not know the procedures needed to legalize their work, even when they want to start private practice, consider psychologists from Chisinau and from Romania who took part in an event staged by the Romanian College of Psychologists in cooperation with Moldovan psychologists on May 10, IPN reports.

Event organizer, psychologist Victoria Gonta said the conference involved information activities about the status of psychologist, quality standards in psychology and practical possibilities of building a career of psychologist in the European Union.

Victoria Gonta noted that specialists of the Romanian College of Psychologists present in Chisinau the legislative and methodological resources of Romania concerning the attestation of psychologists. This aspect is very important when many persons work as psychologists without professional training and therefore the people lose confidence in these specialists. The Moldovan psychologists should not disperse, but should create a coherent society where they could cooperate efficiently, regardless of their specialty.

Magda Luchian, a member of the Romanian College of Psychologists, said the lack of legislation about the work of psychologists is one of the problems faced by these specialists in Moldova. She recommended her colleagues from Moldova to be more united inside the guild, to form associations and to find a legislative power that would represent their professional interests.
