Sand from antiskid mixture may be replaced with gravel

The municipality intends to change the composition of the antiskid material so that the streets are not full of mud when the snow melts. The sand from the antiskid mixture may be replaced by gravel, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said the snow removing machines had to work by three shifts when it snowed and afterward so that the snow didn’t turn into ice. “During two months, we spread 7,000 cubic meters of sand, but this is not good. When the snow melts, there is only mud and dirt,” said the mayor. He also said they should monitor the situation to see if they can use the same antiskid material as in the West, with the equipment existing in Chisinau. If the result is positive, the municipality will change the composition of the antiskid material. “We must have the surface dry. You should do same calculations so that the surface is dry 24 hours after it stops snowing. It doesn’t interest me how many times the machines will have to pass,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca.
