Scientist Demir Dragnev becomes citizen of honor of Soroca

The correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Demir Dragnev, specialist in Moldova's and Southeastern Europe's medieval and modern history and in Slavic-Romanian paleography, was awarded the citizen of honor of Soroca distinction on Wednesday, July 28, on the scientist's birthday, Info Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Academy of Sciences.
Mayor of Soroca Victor Sau, who handed over the award to the scientist, said the decision to confer the distinction was taken by the Soroca District Council on February 11, following requests made by the Association of Historians of Moldova and councilor Nicolae Bulat.
Those attending the ceremony spoke about Demir Dragnev's contribution towards developing the historical science in Moldova, including the studying of the history of Soroca.
Demir Dragnev studied the medieval history of the Romanian Principates and Southeastern Europe. He wrote about 300 scientific works independently or in cooperation with other authors, including 50 volumes. He is a laureate of the State Award.
