The driver who caused a road accident in Cupcini town that resulted in three deaths last February was sentenced to seven years in jail. The 19-year-old man from Edinet was found guilty of violation of traffic rules and driving under the influence, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the culprit was also banned from driving for a period of five years.
The accident occurred on the M-14 road at the entrance to Cupcini town of Edinet district. There were eight young people aged between 19 and 24 in the BMW driven by the culprit. These were returning from disco. A patrolling team asked the driver to stop the car, but this accelerated. It was later established that the car travelled at a speed of over 140 km/h.
The culprit, who was inebriated, didn’t have a driver’s license. He lost control of the car and this skidded off the road and ran into a tree. Two girls died on the spot. A young man died shortly in the hospital, while another two men, among whom the driver, were hospitalized in a serious state.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
