The Socialist Party’s leadership is urging other parties in Parliament to show responsibility, leave personal ambitions aside and join the talks on government formation. Following a round of discussions with the President, PSRM formal leader Zinaida Greceanîi said that making nominations is futile unless actual negotiations start.
“We informed Mr. President of our position. I believe things are crystal clear. We wait for our colleagues to respond and we call on them to show responsibility. They all should leave their personal ambitions and aspirations for positions aside. Let’s start negotiating. You cannot throw statements around unless you start negotiating”, Greceanîi told reporters after the meeting with Igor Dodon.
Greceanîi dismissed as “populist” NOW’s announcement that the bloc was ready to form a minority government with Maia Sandu as Prime Minister, saying it didn’t make sense for anyone to make nominations before negotiations. The Socialists, remarked Greceanîi, abstained from doing this, despite having most MP seats. “We will start negotiating and will make concessions or reach compromise with the political parties in Parliament”, stated Greceanîi.
President Dodon invited the Socialists, the Democrats, and the bloc NOW, one party at a time, to talk government formation today. After meeting with PSRM, Dodon has sat with PDM’s Vlad Plahotniuc, Pavel Filip and Andrian Candu at 3:00 p.m. NOW’s co-presidents were ambiguous about whether they would show up at 4:00 p.m.
