In order to prevent the situation at Banca de Economii from worsening, some of the state institutions could have played a more active role, considers Liberal-Democratic MP George Mocanu, who is a member of the commission of inquiry into the management of the state holding in the BEM. The lawmaker stated his opinion in a press briefing, IPN reports.

George Mocanu told the journalists that the situation at the BEM could have been followed more attentively. The commission established that the state institutional acted partially correctly. But, the MP considers that the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center, the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Moldova could have had a better intervention in this situation.

Commenting on the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu’s assertion that the BEM started to release delinquent loans when Vlad Filat came to power, the lawmaker said the commission didn’t establish that somebody from the PLDM had been involved.

Referring to the fact that the sitting where the commission’s repot was presented was held behind closed doors, George Mocanu said such a decision was taken because the people started to withdraw their money from the bank, losing thus the interest, after some of the MPs caused hysteria in society by their statements.

The legislature had held debates for almost six hours.
