The only State University Medical Rehabilitation Center in Moldova, which has a capacity of over 60 places, was inaugurated in Chisinau on June 5. According to the rector of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” Ion Ababii, the Center will provide contract services for the National Health Insurance Company as well as services for the population for money. The implementation of the project was possible with the financial support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, IPN reports.
The Center’s services are intended for children and grownups with functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system, central and peripheral nervous systems, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, etc. It has kinetotherapy, electrotherapy, occupational therapy, manual therapy, acupuncture and phototherapy offices. There are also two halls for massage and three offices for hydrotherapy.
“The clinic is obliged to become a base for training the future specialists in medical rehabilitation, in compliance with the international standards and the requirements of the World Health Organization. The Center will provide medical services in an ambulatory way and will reduce the hospitalization period of patents,” stated Ion Ababii.
Chairman of the Parliament’s commission for social protection, health and family Oxana Domenti said the Center’s services play not only a medical role, but also a pronounced social role as they contribute to the social integration of persons after particular treatment. “Regrettably, today we do not have a medical rehabilitation service and this is probably the biggest shortcoming of our health system. The launch of this Center makes us optimistic that this service will start to develop,” stated Oxana Domenti.
Deputy Minister of Health Liliana Iasan said the State University Medical Rehabilitation Center is a center that will generate human resources for public medical-sanitary facilities.
According to specialists, about 100,000 persons are now in need of medical rehabilitation services in Moldova.
