Tenth graders of the Magdacesti Theoretical Lyceum have gathered goods and food products for the 24 elderly people of the Calarasi rest home. The head teacher of the class Eugenia Ciutac has told IPN that elderly people who didn’t have children or whose children do not visit them live at the rest home. On October 25, the students will transmit the donations to the elderly people within the National Volunteer Week.
Eugenia Ciutac said that the students from Magdacesti have implemented charity projects to help the elderly people during two years. There are 16 women and eight men at the Calarasi rest home. The students were asked by these people to bring them overshoes as they do not have what to wear in winter.
Two companies based in the settlement donated two TV sets and personal hygiene products to the rest home. Besides the purchased overshoes, the children and teachers collected handkerchiefs for the women from the rest home. Somebody donated three brooms. There were also gathered 50 kg of sugar, rice and buckwheat. A parcel with candies was prepared for every elderly person.
Last year, one student from the class suggested staging a charity event before Christmas. The students decided to make a tradition of this and to help more elderly people. They also agreed to help a former local teacher who retired and took her a parcel with food products in gratitude for the work done by her.
