Grammatical and semantic mistakes identified on the billboards of Chisinau were presented in an exhibition of photographs at the State University of Moldova. The exhibit will continue until the end of this week. It was mounted by third-year students of the Communication Faculty, who had collected the mistakes from advertisements for two months, IPN reports.
In the opening of the event, chair of the State University’s Communication Faculty Valentin Dorogan said the exhibition is entitled suggestively “Laundry of Advertising” and includes a wide range of messages with distorted content. “I want to believe that the exhibition will stimulate our creative spirit and will prevent us from making similar mistakes,” he stated.
Lecturer of the Communication Faculty Silvia Grosu said the messages were collected by students within practice lessons and they represent only a part of the actions that the students are to take in the near future.
Student Eugen Shuleanschi said the identified mistakes are not necessarily linguistic mistakes. Some of the messages are correct from linguistic point of view, but focus not on the product, but on associations, often with sexual allusions. Student Violeta Iaros said that by this exhibition they aim to warn the companies about the mistakes met in advertising. The collected mistakes were also published on a social networking site.
