The State Hydro-Meteorology Service has issued a yellow-coded advisory for extreme cold weather covering the period from January 29 through February 3, with the lowest temperatures expected to plummet to -24 degrees Celsius.
Victoria Moiseicev, weather forecaster at the Service, told Info-Prim Neo that daytime temperatures during this period will range from -9 to -18 degrees, and nighttime temperatures will vary between -17 and -24 degrees. In eastern and north-eastern Moldova, temperatures could even exceed the -24 degree mark.
Snowfall is predicted only for the first days of February, albeit light and isolated.
Weathermen also warn that despite extreme temperatures ice conditions on ponds and lakes will continue to be unsafe in some parts of the country.
