The rental of textbooks in the new academic year will vary between 50 and 100 lei, according to the official taxes published in the Official Gazette. The tenth graders of the humanities specialty, who have the largest number of books, will have to pay the highest rental, while the ninth grades studying in Romanian will pay the lowest rental. The first-fourth graders will receive the textbooks free of charge.
Contacted by IPN, Special Textbooks Stock head Gheorghe Garnet said the sets of textbooks in Russian will be by 20% more expensive that those in Romanian, given the additional costs incurred for translation.
The textbook rental represents 28% of the price of the books in the first year and decreases gradually to 12% in the last year. The textbooks are replaced once in five years. This year, there were renewed the textbooks for the fourth and seventh grades.
