The false values of the modern world: abortion, destruction of family, supporting homosexuality, the drop in population, all on the background of aggressive atheism, show their true face in the novel “The Devil is Politically Correct”. The book, written by Savatie Bastovoi, was launched on Wednesday, November 16, at the Municipal Library Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The novel tells the story of 40 year old who orders food and clothes only via Internet because of his immobility. He is obese and never gets out, being ashamed of the way he looks. He browses the web and discusses only virtually. He is caught in the modern man's drama and his dream is to catch a real sunrise. He spends his nights on the Internet and then sleeps all day and searches for sunrises. In the end, he starts a real life, a rummage of society, and returns to profound, eternal, biblical values.
“The book is an answer to the solitude drama experienced by the modern human caught in the mirage of free and total communication. The story of correctness is that man is forced to accept evil and then legalize it. The modern human is lost in the mass of information, this puzzle from which he can build a clear image about the world, abut himself, about what he should do and what he should strive to. Not only doesn't he know his future, he doesn't even know what's happening to him now. “The Devil is Politically Correct” is a response to this world ruled by details, for somebody said: the devil is hidden in details”, said the author, hieromonk Savatie Bastovoi from the Noul Neamt Monastery.
The director of the Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Library says that “The Devil is Politically Correct” projects into the future politicians' and opinion leaders' statements, bills or laws about how they would want the world to be. “People have come to sell their youth, intelligence, natural gifts, their most precious assets, they sell their liver, kidney, everything is for sale. The novel tries to find a chance of survival in these conditions that have destroyed the last traces of the divine in humans”, said Lidia Kulikovski.
Romanian ambassador in Moldova Marius Lazurca labeled “The Devil is Politically Correct” a book about people's faith in a better future. “This book is, I dare say, prophetic and shows the monk's calling to be a prophet among the believers. The novel anticipates a world that may become real if we don't pay attention. The book doesn't end without offering solutions. They are faith and Christianity”, said Marius Lazurca.
Savatie Bastovoi is poet, writer, publicist and editor. He won the Writers' Union Award for Poetry in 2010.
