Three colorectal cancer screening centers will work in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul.
“Works go on well. There were announced tender contests and we hope the center in Chisinau will be opened by September 30. It will have two satellite screening centers in Balti and Cahul,” the director of the Oncology Institute in Chisinau Victor Cernat stated for IPN.
The centers will be outfitted with 48 modern video colonoscopy systems that were purchased with the assistance of the Government of Japan. The investments in the medical equipment and the outfitting of the three centers are assessed at about 50 million lei.
According to the Ministry of Health, colorectal cancer tops the morbidity rankings, accounting for 12.3% of the cases of cancer. It is followed by breast cancer (11.8%), lung cancer (10.5%), skin cancer (9.3%), bladder cancer (6.4%), and hemoblastosis (6.3%).
