The Movement of Transnistrian Refugees has notified the Chisinau mayoral administration it will stage rallies to picket the buildings of the Parliament, Government and the City Hall during January 26 and 27, as the Moldovan capital prepares to welcome Romanian President Traian Basescu, Info-Prim Neo reports. Anatolie Bizgu, the leader of the Movement, told a press conference today the protest rallies will be held to protest the delay in the allocation of apartments which 17 displaced families from Transnistria were supposed to receive under a City Council ordinance. While 63 apartments in the 80-apartment block build specially for the Transnistrian refugees have been already donated, the applications of 17 families are being considered with great delay, for reasons unknown to the Movement. Bizgu said Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca assured the Movement that the problem will be solved, “but Chirtoaca didn't keep his word”. “Moreover, the mayor insinuated that the delay in the case of six applicants were related to the fact that they are employed at the special destinations squad Fulger, which was involved in the April events”. “It is not clear what the April events have in common with the refugee status of these persons, many of whom were disabled in the military hostilities on the Nistru”, declared Bizgu. He explained that the refugees chose to protest on January 26 and 26 to take advantage of President Traian Basescu's visit to Chisinau. Similar protests by the Transnistrian refugees were held last time when Basescu visited Chisinau. He heard their complaints, but the situation has remained unchanged.
